'God of War 4' já está sendo desenvolvido e será lançado em setembro de 2012, de acordo com a não oficial, porém respeitadíssima, revista PSM3. No mês passado foi revelada em um currículo uma referência a "'God of War 4' cinematic test", ou seja, um teste dos vídeos e animações do jogo.

Embora o animador que anunciou a novidade tenha dito não se tratar de nada da série da Sony, a revista ainda disse mais: "PSM3 ouviu de outra fonte que 'God of War 4' está chegando e será lançado em setembro de 2012. Nossa fonte trabalha muito próxima do universo de 'God of War', e deixou escapar que ele estaria trabalhando, ao mesmo tempo, em um projeto relacionado ao jogo".
